Three State Agencies Release Request for Information for Energy Transition Act Proposals

(Albuquerque, NM) – The Energy Transition Act (ETA), passed in 2017 by the Legislature and signed by Governor Lujan Grisham, establishes New Mexico as a national leader in clean energy. It sets bold new renewable energy standards, transitioning New Mexico away from coal and toward clean energy, and ensures greater renewable energy production while reducing costs for consumers.

It also provides $20 Million of economic and workforce support for communities impacted by coal plant closures. In order to facilitate the use of that funding, the New Mexico Departments of Economic Development, Indiana Affairs, and Workforce Solutions, in cooperation with local Committee conveners, are partnering to solicit Requests for Information (RFI) from parties interested in working with the state to diversify the economy of San Juan County.

The RFI, and minutes from the last ETA Advisory Committee meeting with proposals for economic diversification, can be accessed here: https://www.dws.state.nm.us/ETA. Proposals can be submitted by email to nmdws.communication@state.nm.us and emails are requested to have “ETA RFI Proposal” in the subject line. The last day for submission will be October 31, 2021.

Proposals will be discussed and evaluated at the next public meeting of the ETA Advisory Committee. Agencies will look favorably on proposals that combine aspects of good economic development strategy, local workforce skill development leading to careers, and leveraging of other available funding (JTIP, WIOA, etc). Additionally, partnerships with local Native American communities will be critical.
